The Eve of the End

RUN:  Yes, the "standard," but a run none the less!
READ:  "What really is our way of life as followers of Jesus? I wondered. Is it what makes us comfortable, secure, and happy, or is it something more."  We were "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life."  Doing good works, helping others, giving, loving, and serving in Jesus name -- these are to be our way of life. They are not optional activities for believers, but the very reason God has given us life in Christ...pursue a life that reaches out to others and honors Him." ODB

This is a good reminder and timely as it's too easy to fall into discontent when seeing and hearing of what others have, where they are going, and who they are doing life with.  Our voyeuristic culture allows us to see too much of the lives of other.  We see the high points and are led to believe that is where they live, which makes our lives seem low and unfulfilling.  So many lies bombard on all sides that this is the life we should be living, when alas...we are called to...invited into...a much different, and greater way of life!

CTB: "But why do you sometimes feel so lonely? You feel as if you are far away, that you are on your own in the battle, like the emotions of a soldier who has to go on reconnaissance and feels he is in danger. He is trembling, because he has lost the connection with the army and the general staff. A soldier like that needs a walkie-talkie. Then he is in contact with his superiors, whom he can consult at all times.  Our King never sends us to the front without a walkie-talkie. We are in constant, wonderful contact with Him through our walkie-talkie of prayer..."

I need to use my walkie-talkie more often!

The current distraction.  I begin to think that it would be fun to host a dinner party or at least a dessert party, and then I am reminded of the little informal mock-tail party I'm co-hosting tomorrow.  So many ideas, but when it comes to implementing - the enthusiasm wanes.  So, for now, perhaps it's best to sticks with books and YouTube.
